One Reason I Like Nature

Indoors, you can’t tell the natural color of
anything because the lights are either too
yellow, or blinding fluorescent white.Yellow
looks pale and blue looks too shallow. If the
color is green, artificial light will mock it
and not even come close to doing it justice.

Indoors, the furniture and people are too still
and in accordance with how things always are
they’re not only still but also serious. If two people
are talking, they’ll use “inside” voices and be
unnaturally composed.

Only the poised and boring belong indoors. That
is why I treat indoors as less interesting than a Catholic mass.
Indoors are awful. They drain
people’s character.

Let’s go outside instead.
The light is bright and as warm as the flame
of a candle. It can pull you out of the
deepest low. It can brighten even the
darkest shadows.

The green that is growing is more brilliant
than anything you could see in high definition.
It resembles stained glass with light streaming through.
It’s more vivid than all the fine arts combined.

The trees twine, tan and brown tangles.
Their branches rise like superiors in the sky
and reach and reach then split and reach
the last little stretch they possess in
brilliant and eager energy.

The green and gold ocean waves (the hills)
have a posture so high that when they’re
silhouetted in a sunset they look like approaching
tsunamis. They’re intimidating with size.
They’re as soft as muddy earth.
They seem to grow nightly.

The dirt is, however, seemingly insignificant.
It is the mother to all growing things, but we
don’t really appreciate it. Nobody cares.
But it encompasses the tiniest seeds and nurtures
them to be giants.

What you see is work of the most divine spirits,
it’s too perfect to be ignored. What you hear
is existence as gentle as a house of cards.
What you see is life like your own. What you hear

is the earth’s own voice, accent, beat and rhythm.
The earth is melodic. The earth is the first song.
The earth just is. The nature as vital as blood
revives your being.
